What are the best places in virginia for recent college grads?

my roomate and i (from new york) are looking to move down south after we graduate in may. i will graduate with a child & family studies degree and she will have a fashion degree in advertising and marketing. we are researching places outside of D.C. in hope that we will be able to find a job in a larger city and commute to work. so far we are most interested in arlington but it's a little our of our price range. we will be traveling to virginia in january to begin researching. if you have any recommendations on areas outside of washington or any other "young" towns (i've heard charlottesville would be a good place to possibly look into) with various job opportunities please let me know! thanks in advance :)
