Who is a good car insurer?

no sales people please. i just want some personal recommendations about who to insure my car with as my current insurance has gone up almost �500 despite no claims and hardly using the car. i know it's all going up but i've found insurance quotes for few hundred less though i don't know if the companies are good as have no experience with them. is asda good? or rac? thanks.
